Mountain Dew is running a new promotion allowing drinkers to choose the next new flavor of Mountain Dew to go into production. Three new flavors - named Supernova, Voltage and Revolution - are available on shelves across the country and then you can vote for your favorite. We had the opportunity to try all three, so you can read the rest of this article and see how we felt about the three flavors.
For this, we taste-tested all three "candidates", with two adults and an 8 year old participating. In no particular order:

Vote for SuperNovaSupernova - "When flavor goes supernova all you can do is "Brace for the Blast." Prepare yourself for Strawberry Melon Lime with a Ginseng tremor that'll knock your taste buds into the next dimension." Supernova appears light pink in color with a strong strawberry flavor. The melon is more subdued, which is probably good as a watermelon taste could overpower it. The description mentions a lime flavor specifically, but it is not mentioned on the bottle/can. It could be a reference to the base Dew flavor, but it is not called out on the other flavors.

Supernova is very sweet, however - much more so than the other two. The flavor is good, but all of us agreed that we could not drink much of it. Maybe one can or bottle, and I wouldn't try to chug it. The 8 year old said maybe a quarter can was enough.

Vote for VoltageVoltage - "You don't just taste the intensity, you practically feel it. In our world, voltage measures a charge of Raspberry Citrus with a closing burst of Ginseng, all blended to Shock Your Senses." Voltage has a moderate blue color, with a distinct Raspberry flavor with some other citrus.

Voltage taste pretty much like you'd expect a raspberry soda to taste like - but there aren't many actually out there to compare it against. Not nearly as sweet, we found this far more drinkable than Supernova. The "citrus" seems again to be the background taste of Dew.

Vote for RevolutionRevolution - "How's it feel to wield the power? Pretty sweet. Witness a revolution that dares to turn the world of Mountain Dew? upside down. Just one taste of Wild Berry fruit flavor with a Ginseng boost and you'll be ready to Join the Movement." Revolution is a very pale blue color, with a mixed berry flavor.

Off the bat, all three of us eliminated Revolution from contention. There just didn't seem to be a good, specific flavor to it. I could only describe it as "conflicted". It wasn't that the flavor was bad - it just wasn't a flavor any of us wanted.

Vote for VoltageSo, in the end, it was a unanimous decision: Voltage. It had a distinctive flavor, unique among the myriad of soda choices available, without being overpowering or oversweet, which can make it a more refreshing choice.
